On the 54th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, we uplift the incredible strides the LGBTQIA+ community has made in fighting for their own freedom. Additionally, we acknowledge that there is still a long road ahead to equity.

The LGBTQIA+ community in the United States has come to the forefront of our cultural zeitgeist over the last few years, with LGBTQIA+ sociopolitical issues being discussed more openly than ever before. While, on the one hand, this is an improvement to the alternative—that is, silence and suppression—it has also unfortunately brought forth more open oppression.

Tragically, many LGTBQIA+ Americans and their loved ones are living in fear due to the extremist anti-LGBTQIA+ rhetoric being touted by right-wing politicians, as well as the myriad pieces of anti-LGBTQIA+ legislation that have occurred, such as the bill signed earlier this year by governor Ron DeSantis banning gender-affirming care to minors.

According to Vice President Kamala Harris, there are over 600 anti-LGBTQIA+ bills currently being proposed across the country. It is due to this unfortunate reality that we must fight harder than ever before to protect LGBTQIA+ people from violence and injustice.

The unwavering pride and courage the LGBTQIA+ community displays in the face of abhorrent adversity is truly admirable. At Filippatos PLLC, we do our utmost to uplift members of the LGBTQIA+ community by protecting their inherent rights in the workplace.
