Filippatos PLLC Represents Broadway Actor in Racial Discrimination Suit

Filippatos PLLC is representing Broadway actor Zuri Washington in a lawsuit alleging that the producers of the national tour of 1776 wrongfully discriminated against her. Attorney Tanvir H. Rahman told various outlets that Washington was wrongfully terminated and that her firing was “racially motivated, retaliatory, and unlawful.”

Washington’s complaint named several entities and alleged eight causes of action related to discrimination, retaliation, or aiding and abetting the same. She is seeking damages for lost wages, benefits, pain and suffering. She is asking that the defendants make a declaration “declaring that Defendants engaged in, and enjoining Defendants from continuing to engage in, unlawful employment practices prohibited by Section 1981 and the New York State Human Rights Law and New York City Human Rights Law in that Defendants discriminated and retaliated against Plaintiff on the basis of her race (Black/African American).”

Jones claims that her employer started to discriminate against her because of her skin color after she revealed a lung cancer diagnosis. She began receiving less work than her white colleagues in similar situations. Jones also alleges that the company used its sale as a pretense to terminate her without cause. Jones is seeking punitive and compensatory damages, along with damages related to pay and bonuses she was denied.

A&E Harassment Suit

Attorney Parisis “Gerry” Filippatos with Filippatos PLLC is representing Jenice E. Jeter in her lawsuit against A&E Television Networks LLC. The lawsuit was filed in Connecticut federal court. Jeter is accusing the cable network of sexually harassment and age discrimination. She began working with the network in 1998, and has been overlooked for promotions due to her age. She claims a vice president of the network has made sexually inappropriate comments in the past. Attorney Filippatos told Law360 that he plans on holding A&E accountable for how his client has been treated.

Fox News has agreed to pay $12 million to Abby Grossberg, a former producer at the news station. Represented by Parisis “Gerry” Filippatos and the team at Filippatos PLLC, Grossberg accused the network of operating a hostile and discriminatory workplace and of coercing her into providing false testimony in a deposition in two separate lawsuits. With the settlement, Grossberg has concluded all her claims against Fox and any other defendants named in her lawsuits.
